I’m an oyster eater now. That’s one of the biggest changes I’ve seen in me (palette wise) since I’ve lived here. I wouldn’t go near those slimy suckers before but now I eat enough in class to essentially replace medical stimulants (lol). I also eat raw fish now. Oh the possibilities when the food is fresh!

what I like now:

1. Chai tea over instant coffee

2. hot chocolate over instant coffee

3. real coffee over instant coffee

4. traditional teh tarik instead of bubble teas

5. fresh tuna over canned tuna (feeling ko di ko na kayang magcanned tuna kahit si Derek pa ang magendorse. However, for pasta it will do but not with rice)

6. fresh milk over UHT milk

7. roti canai

8. chicken karaage

9. gyoza

10. beef ramen

11. beef cooked medium to medium well

12. ceviche

13. homemade mayo and aioli

14. natural meat flavours (wala masyadong marinades and MSG)

It’s a shame that in the Philippines, the produce is good but people prefer imported. Probably because it’s cheaper i.e. taiwanese garlic is cheaper than our local flavorsome garlic. The produce we get doesn’t get the respect it deserves either. Fishmongers set up shop near an open canal, pour tabos-full of water over fish whilst swatting the flies away and that’s (good) hygiene. Also, people prefer food that come in convenient packs because it’s quicker and cheaper than fresh food AND the ads are absolutely everywhere.

Fresh is best people!

p.s. I’m sorry I played a small but constant role in changing people’s minds about MSG before. I know better now
